Wheels require regular cleaning to maintain their factory appearance. Any warranty claims for finish related issues will be dismissed if the wheels were not properly cared for.
Proper Maintenance
It's recommended to wash your wheels weekly to remove road grime and brake dust. Road grime traps moisture, which can lead to corrosion over time. Brake dust is corrosive and can cause pitting which is not covered under warranty.
- Never clean wheels when they are hot. Always allow wheels to cool before cleaning with soap and water.
It's recommend to clean wheels with car wash soap and water. Most household cleaners contain harsh chemicals and should be avoided. In fact, some wheel specific cleaners may also contain additives that are not safe for cleaning your wheels. Basically, treat your wheels as you would treat the vehicle's paint.
Use soft microfiber towels or a soft wheel brush designed for aluminum wheels. Do not use abrasive pads or scouring pads.
Be cautious of automatic car washes. Car washes can harm wheels by creating scratches caused by the tracks or other debris, and may also cause damage with the use of harsh chemicals.
Finish-Specific Care
Chrome-plated aluminum
Clean with car wash soap and water. Dry with a soft cloth. After cleaning, apply a coat of soft, non-abrasive cream wax or wheel seal to help prevent surface corrosion. Chrome wheels are susceptible to pitting caused by brake dust. Sealing the chrome protects the surface from damage.
Painted and Machined
These clear-coated finishes should be cleaned with car wash soap and water. Dry with a soft cloth. The clear coat is designed to protect the wheel from damage caused by grime and brake-dust and does not require any additional sealers.
Polished aluminum
Clean with car wash soap and water. Dry with a soft cloth. Polished wheels are not clear coated and the shine may diminish or oxidize over a period of time. After cleaning, apply a coat of soft, non-abrasive cream wax or wheel seal. The finish on polished aluminum wheels is not covered under any warranty.
